Look-Listen-Connect-Create-Celebrate. Since 1984, the Mural Arts Institute has used this recipe to bring forth truly community-based art. As the USA’s largest public art program the organization aims not only to make art integral to public spaces, but for that art to be transformative on every level--from individual to national. After the runaway success of its pilot program in Philadelphia, the Institute has launched the Art & Environment Initiative to share its knowledge with cities across the nation, assisting them in creation and enrichment of their own self-sustaining, resilient public art programs.
