Artist, enigma, criminal--it all depends on who you ask. Banksy, arguably the most well-known graffiti artist in the world, collaborated with HBO to produce this 2014 documentary chronicling his month-long residency in NYC. Utilizing YouTube videos and Instagram posts of users eagerly hunting each daily pop-up installation, the film captures the excitement and controversy of Banksy’s art and mythos. Perhaps the artist himself says it best: “The outside is where art should live, amongst us, where it can act as a public service, promote debate, voice concerns and forge identities. Don’t we want to live in a world made of art, not just decorated by it?”
