SUPPORTING ARTISTS WHO INSPIRE SOCIAL CHANGE
This artwork by Eduardo Kobra depicts B.I.G. and Tupac who are, in this case, represented as children. This image was done in a limited run of only 200 pieces. The first image regarding these two hip hop stars was done on a wall in Miami on NW 26th Street. That iteration shows the two as adults and was executed by Kobra for Art Basel in 2013. The Miami work is a close up of faces only, while the work shown here is done in three-quarter length and has the two smiling at us in a non-threatening manner, as children would do. Both images are done with Kobra's familiar technique where bright colors and bold lines in geometric patterns repeat across the surface giving that well-recognized “Kobra look”.
Kobra was born in São Paulo, Brazil and, after painting a wall about immigration in Lyon, France in 2011, he became an internationally acclaimed artist with more than 3000 street artworks in many different countries around the world to his credit. His images appear in the US, Mexico, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Sweden, Poland, Netherlands, Russia, Japan, India, and his home country Brazil. In New York City alone Kobra has painted 19 murals. In 2017, Kobra created the largest outdoor mural in the world - “Cocoa”. The mural, which is over 200 meters or 658 feet long, depicts a worker from the Amazon region of Brazil, harvesting chocolate. The worker is rowing a boat and, fittingly, Kobra placed the mural on the wall of a Sao Paulo chocolate factory where it measures 5,728.62 m² (61,662.35 ft²). This mural surpassed in size another of Kobra’s work entitled Etnias done during the Rio de Janeiro Olympics and Cocoa now holds the Guinness record for the largest spray paint mural by a team.
A donation will be made to the NY’s only Brazilian Company - Group Dot BR with the sale of this print.
